Desperately Seeking ______________ on Sale...

What are you desperately seeking on sale?

Food Therapy

Good food is as satisfying as a good sale. So from time to time (probably more than that because I'm a foodie and I love to eat), I'll be providing some food therapy. Be forewarned, I'm an adventurous eater with a HUGE sweet tooth. If you're in NYC, I hope you try some of these spots. If you do, LMK what you think. Bon appetit!

Video Reviews

While picture reveals of bags are nice. Video reviews of bags are better! As such, I will endeavor to post as many video reviews of bags as possible. However, I will only be reviewing bags that I like. Life is too short to review bags that I dislike. Plus, at the end of the day, it really is just a matter of personal opinion/taste.

Reminder: Buy Your Bubba Fast Pass Soon!

As a reminder to all you 'cue lovers, don't forget to buy your Bubba Fast Pass for the 8th Annual Big Apple BBQ Block Party (6/12/10 - 6/13/10) while supplies last.  It's very doubtful that they'll have any available at the block party.  For more info, read this post:  Food Therapy: Big Apple BBQ Block Party.

Sabon: Free Shower Oil

Sabon is one of my favorite bath and body stores in the city.  Thanks to their hand washing stations in each store, I always walk out with clean, exfoliated and moisturized hands.  Because the products are so nice, my hands actually feels better than they do after a manicure!  The prices are a little steep for what they're selling but you can skip the spa after you use one of their body scrubs and then take a bath with their bath foam and bath salt.  Sunshine can attest to it (yes - he had his "Chandler Takes A Bath" moment several years back).

For those of you who live in the city, sign-up for Sabon's new membership program (it's free!) and get a travel-size bottle of Shower Oil as a welcome gift:

I chose the Lavendar Shower Oil but other scents are available.  This "welcome gift" promotion is on-going while supplies last!

For those of you who can't make it to the store, Sabon has an on-line gift promotion:  Get a free travel set with any $60 purchase.  This promotion expires 5/16/10.  No code is necessary, the gift is automatically added once you hit the $60 threshold.  The travel set will include hand cream, shower oil and glycerine soap...the scents will vary.

If you do decide to purchase something from Sabon, I highly recommend the scrubs.  They're absolutely amazing!  It makes your skin feel like a baby's bottom.  There are so many scents to choose from that there's a scent for everyone...even me, a scent-sensitive person!

Did I mention that they wrap everything beautifully?  Check out how they wrapped the shower oil.  Unwrapping it was half the fun!

Kiehl's: The Last Bottle of Lycopene Facial Moisturizing Lotion

About 2 years ago, Kiehl's decided to discontinue my all-time favorite moisturizer, the Lycopene Facial Moisturizing Lotion.  (There was also a thicker cream version that I used for the winter.)

By the time I realized that the Lycopene Lotion was being phased out, I could only get my hands on two more bottles.  Those two bottles are sadly empty now.  I've been searching for a replacement lotion for about a year and I'm coming up empty.  Currently, I'm using a moisturizer from La Prairie but I'm not so enthused about the price difference between the Lycopene Lotion and the La Prairie Moisturizer.

To my delight, Sunshine had stocked up on the Lycopene Lotion as well!  Sneaky boy!  ;)  Unfortunately, he has only one bottle left.  :(  I guess that one remaining bottle is better than none.  It truly is the best facial lotion that I have ever used!

So here's my plea to Kiehl's:

Dear Kiehl's,

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back the Lycopene line!!!  The Acai line, while good on its own, is just not cutting it when compared to the Lycopene line.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart,

I Have A Sneaking Suspicion...

That Sunshine will be playing Flight Control on his new 3G iPad non-stop (he returned the wifi-only version).  When he plays this pretend-to-be-an-air-traffic-controller game, all else fades away.  Maybe I can get him to agree to certain requests while he plays because he will either (a) want me to go away or (b) just "Yes" everything in his inattentive state?  Hmm...

Thomas Pink: The Yellow Bulldog In The Window Display

Every so often, a window display that does NOT involve clothing, bags or shoes will catch my eye.  The following one at Thomas Pink is one of them:

How cute is this yellow english bulldog??  Makes me want to get a real one!

Botkier: On-Line Sample Sale (Harper, Dion & Bond)

Botkier.com is having a suprise on-line sample sale for their Harper, Dion and Bond collections!  Grab them fast before they're gone!  Bags are $275 and under.

Food Therapy: Otafuku

Back in March, I wrote about three of my favorite street food vendors around the city (see post here:  Food Therapy: Street Food).  One of them is Otafuku (located at 236 E 9th St (b/w 2nd & 3rd Ave), NY, NY).  If you're in the neighborhood, I highly recommend trying at least the okonomiyaki or takoyaki!

Otafuku is a hole-in-the-wall take-out only spot that sells Japanese street food: okonomiyaki, takoyaki, and yakisoba.   There's no seating available and if they're busy, you have to squeeze to get inside to order.

I usually go when the weather is nice because if want to sit and eat, you're relegated to trying to slyly nab the single bench outside Otafuku or walking a block north for a bench outside St. Mark's Church in-the-Bowery on 2nd Ave.

I took advantage of the nice weather last week and got a fix for my okonomiyaki and takoyaki craving.  I usually go with Combination B:

On the left is takoyaki (6 pancake balls) and on the right is okonomiyaki (veggie pancake with beef topping).  Traditionally, the filling for takoyaki is a piece of octopus.  It's good but I prefer the cheese filling because I adore cheese!  I usually get okonomiyaki with the beef topping (but you can opt for pork, shrimp or squid).

The brown Okonomi sauce is what makes both okonomiyaki and takoyaki so tasty.  The mayonnaise (the white sauce you see) also adds a slight creaminess.  The green flecks on top is Aonori seaweed. It's used more for decorative purposes because you don't really taste it.  Usually, they will pile bonito flakes on top but I'm not a huge fan of bonito flakes, so I get my Combination B without them.

Though this is street food, it's not fast food.  Expect a wait if you order okonomiyaki or yakisoba.  I've been going back year after year (I won't mention exactly how many...).

Loehmann's: $10 Off $25 Purchase

Check your snail mail...Loehmann's has sent out a "$10 Off $25 Purchase" coupon.  Pair this up with the "Extra 25% Off Purple Sticker Clearance" promotion and you may end up paying next to nothing on a purple sticker clearance item!  The coupon is good from 05/13/10 - 05/16/10 (thurs - sun).

Hmm...I may have to hit up both Loehmann's and Nordstrom Rack this weekend to compare selection and prices!

LNA: Comfy Dressing

There's really nothing better than finding a comfy jersey dress and right now, you can the following LNA Deep V Elastic Waist Dress on sale ($49.70) at ShopBop.com:

As much as I love silk dresses, they need to go to the dry cleaners.  Jersey dresses, on the other hand, can go into your washer/dryer (okay...you may want to line-dry).  This LNA dress is not only great for strolling around in the city but it's also a great cover-up option for the beach/pool in case you want to go to a restaurant for a casual lunch/dinner (and not have your arms freeze from the air conditioning).

Nordstrom Rack: Now Open At Union Square

OMG!  What was I thinking?  Nordstrom Rack officially opened yesterday at Union Square (to be exact, it's located at One Union Square South, NY, NY)!  I'm going to have to go and check it out this week!!   I am very hopeful that my report back to you will be filled with positive things to say!  I am sooo excited!!!  Breathe...breathe...

Tylie Malibu Skinny Clutch: Stepping Out With The Rocker Chic In You

After reviewing my first Tylie Malibu bag recently (see post here:  Video Review: Tylie Malibu's Runaway West Leather Bag), I've been paying more attention to this brand.  The designs are rocker chick but the leathers are soft/light.  The Skinny Clutch from Tylie Malibu can bring out the bar hopping party girl in you:

For those of you uncomfortable with all the super studded bags out there, this one is for you!  The front of the Skinny Clutch is decorated with pyramid studs but the studs are lined up nicely for a cleaner look...as opposed to some of the the all-you-can stud bags out there.  You can't miss the brass stud detailing but it's not shouting at you either.  This bag is on sale for $192.50 at Stefanibags.com (price reflects 30% discount with code "SUNNY30"; code expires 5/10/10).

As a side note, what's up with everything being named "Skinny"?  Does it make you skinnier?  No.  Does it make you feel skinnier?  No.  But I guess it's because we all like the idea of "skinny"...

Martin + Osa: 30% Off Closing Sale

Sniff...sniff...another one bites the dust.  Martin + Osa is currently having its 30% Off Closing Sale.  I nabbed the following 3 items on-line (no code needed) at MartinAndOsa.com and may end up nabbing some more:
  • Sunwashed Pocket Dress:  The website's description of this dress was confusing.  In one section, this dress is described as a silk dress and in another, it's described as a cotton dress.  Big difference, dontcha think?  For $69.65 (after the discount), I kept my fingers crossed and it turned out to be silk dress!  And it's not the super thin silk you see nowadays.  I'm thinking about getting the navy version.
  • Silk A-Line Tank:  This is a great silk tank that you can dress up or down.   But the best part?  There are POCKETS!!  It's $48.65 after the discount.
  • Slouchy V-Neck Pocket Tee:  I LOVE this t-shirt!  Not only is the fit fantastic (relaxed and slightly longer in length), the fabric is great.  It soft like slub fabric but thicker, so I'm hoping there won't be any surprise holes after several washings.  It's $17.15 after the discount.  I may get this one in navy as well!

Note:  I'm not sure if it's due to the styles that I purchased, but I had sized down on all items and they still fit a teeny tiny larger than I would like.

Intermix: Take An Online Survey, Get A $150 Gift Card...Too Good To Be True?

I'm sure some of us have received an e-mail from Intermix that basically reads:  Fill Out An Online Survey, Get A $150 Gift Card For In-Store Purchases.   When I first got this e-mail, I was rather excited but then I saw an asterik, and asteriks always mean exclusions/restrictions.  The major exclusion/restriction of note was the following:  the $150 gift card is applicable to selected full-priced designer merchandise only.  You are then instructed to ask an SA for a list of the selected designers.

Hahahahahaha!!!  LMAO!!  This must be a joke because Intermix SAs are not known for their customer service and I'm pretty sure that the "selected designers" won't have full-priced merchandise at less than the $500 price point, if that.  Spend at least $350 to save $150?  Need to ask a can't-be-troubled-by-you SA for the selected designers list?  I think I'll pass.

Out of curiosity, I did take a look at the survey.  It involves questions regarding the Intermix shopping experience:  both on-line and in-store.  Hmm...do they really need confirmation that they need to improve on customer service when they are giving you a not-really-usable gift card (which I consider a fake-nice gesture)?  The irony of it all!

There's no doubt that they have a great selection of merchandise, but poor customer service and not-really-usable gift cards overshadow it for me.  If you really intended for us to use the $150 gift card, then lift the selected designers list restriction.  I'm even okay with setting a minimum purchase requirement and the current exclusion of sale items.  At least it's crystal clear what you're offering in return for my completion of the survey.  KWIM?
